What is in a name? I can only imagine how many recruiters read our bios in our portfolios? Do you think that is important to do? You think the work is important. I believe there is no right answer, but I do know we should be in their shoes. You know those movies they talk about Freakie Fridays where they think their life is so horrible that they change places. Yes, I wonder what that would be like? Should designers be the recruiter? I’m sure designers will learn a lot.
That is a tough job trying to get everything together, from setting an interview to delivering the news if they got the job or not. So what does your bio say about you? How does your bio start off? Does it say something that is not already on your resume? Remember, you want to have the right balance of saying who are you and your work. I kid you not, this is one of the toughest things you will have to do.
What type of person are you? Can people depend on you? We might imagine someone be on paper, and then they start working on the team, and let’s just say they are opposite on what they thought on paper. No matter what, everyone will have a crapping job and a good job. This happens to the best of us. When things don’t go away, you always have to look at the positive and learn. I realize this is hard, but it’s something we all have to go through. This is how we grow, and to my point, that is how you want to move toward your career.
Let’s talk about how to move forward with your career. By now, you’re at work for 6 months, learning the ropes right and trying to get your feed on the ground. Once you have done that, it is time to continue to learn, and don’t forget to connect. Many people stop doing what they have done before and forget everything else, your networking and your portfolio. This is like an abstract painting, it will continue. So don’t let that get out of hand. Always keep your portfolio neat and tidy. Don’t forget to consider in your future what type of creator you want to be. Design has many impressive categories to check in. Don’t keep your options closed always seeks in the opposite direction. Keep seeking and remember to update your portfolio.
Believe accessibility is everything!
