What makes for an excellent environment to learn code? A good chair, a laptop that works, and yes, your favorite tunes. Don’t forget the snacks, milk, and graham crackers! Whatever fills up your strength to learn code, you’re going to need it.
I am into my 2nd month of learning HTML/CSS with a Careerfoundry. I am learning very much, but I have to say, for me, it is tough. I have to remind myself not to be too hard on what I am learning. Other students would probably be a lot faster than me, but I have to remember not to follow what others are doing. I have to be true to my journey for sure.
Back in 2007, I had my first introduction to code. I had a great friend who was kind enough to sit down with me and let me learn. It was a great experience, and I learned a lot, but at the time, I thought I did not need it, so I took what I learned with me. Heading into 2011 was when I buckled down and started to determine what the terms mean, i.e., what an ID or a Class was.
Another great friend of mine taught me, and I met him every weekend for about four months at Panera Bread. We would always sit in the back room. It was awesome. He made me work, and for that, I could not have been more grateful. I learned most of the terms and the general skeleton of the code. Then, one day, he got busy with life, and I understood that. Again, I am very grateful for what I have learned.
I wanted to have the whole user experience journey as used in developing products. I dropped coding for a while to focus more on UX/UI. When I was first learning to code, it made some sense, but overall, I missed a few spots. After I gained more experience in UX and UI, it was time again to pick up where I left off, and in the present, I am back on it.
Back in 2007, there was no Bootcamp, and there was no online coursework to learn new things. Taking this course at Careerfoundry has bridged the gap between what I have learned before and what is current now. I still need to understand what goes on and how to place the objects on the screen and make sure they go where they need to go. That will come with a lot of practice and even more practice, but so far, this is a win for me. I downloaded a few programs that I will need to code in, and this time, I was not afraid of them. For me, that is a small win. Until next time, I am on my road to code.
