Last week, I spoke to other designers and read a lot of social media. I know I should learn or do something else. I had to try to find out. As a designer myself, I have learned to do design and make changes in design in what works and what does not. I’m talking about basic foundations, space, color and fonts. I sat down with this one designer who has been in the industry for a few years. She told me she stays up all night to make changes to her design. The next day, she had a meeting to show the changes. It turns out nobody attended the meeting. I’ve had that before. She remembered that her team didn’t care what she brought to the team or didn’t value. I know that things are going on, but it would be nice if they actually told her. I think if things happen like this over and over again, it turns out that this type of energy wears down that person.
A few days later, I was talking to another designer that he was stuck in a job he was there for six months. When he was interviewed, it was an impressive role, as he accepted the role. As he was in the job, it turns out the job changed, and he was unhappy with what he was doing. It was time for him to either talk to his manager or find another job. His main lesson was not to settle in what others want you to do, but to find out what matters to you. That’s what he’s done. He spoke to his manager and made some changes, but six months later he merely found another job.
No matter how you spin other people’s opinions, the best bet is your only opinion. I’m talking about when I see others put other people down. Yes, we know that in our family and in the working environment, that has happened so many times. So let’s just be recapped here… if you have stuck or something doesn’t go right, and you get feedback, which is helpful. Here’s the big “BUT” if the feedback is counteractive and only terrible. Listen and move on. Opinions are opinions, but the only opinion that matters is your very own. Until next time, filter out the negative opinions and focus on the good stuff.
