I wanted to bring this quote up:
“I am still learning.”
— Michelangelo
So many reasons that I got a client call and this person got stuck because they didn’t learn fast enough. They had expressed to me that they could not focus. So we talked for about 45 minutes, and the result of the meeting was focus and learning. Personally, we tend to be harder on ourselves than anyone. I am guilty of that as well. During our session, we talked about focus and curiosity and asked ourselves “why.”
Focus
Let’s talk about focus for a minute. Sometimes it requires significant time to focus, and when we can’t, it is extremely frustrating. We need to have a point of concentration on what we are working at the current state. My client was having trouble focusing. They told me why and explained how they would start on one task and two minutes later they were doing something else. Granted, this can go on for 30 minutes, then you lose what you are doing and you get more discourse at the task at hand. So we talked about different ways to solve it. Having a timer might help when you are doing some type of task. We might consider focus as something that we need our directed attention to, maybe it is, but mention to her that maybe if you bring in your curiosity into it a bit more than your focus would blend into being more natural as you do your tasks. As you do your task, you can ask yourself “why” and get more curious about it. If we focus on the benefit and not the negative, you will be on the right track.
Quick points here:
1. Set a Timer
2. Ask why?
3. Focus and turn into being curious
We have different ways to learn how we process information. Some learn visually, others by listening and reading. No matter what the style, the key is learning. Everyone learns something new, something in their industry, or solely something about life. Maybe they can learn to be a better listener or even learn to be a better friend. How great is our curiosity when it comes to learning? Many people who are successful in this type of learning truly understand what curiosity is. They ask questions they are aware of, they want to understand something and gain knowledge about something. They make oversight and learn from them. Learning something should be encouraged and asking those curious questions.
Completely doing so will spark you to be an effective learner. The journey does not stop there. Your never-ending focusing and curiosity about other topics. It’s okay to explore and so it begins, in your new context.
Believe accessibility is everything!
